By Urban Shihemi, Nairobi — November 1, 2025 Hundreds of visitors have today thronged Jamia Mosque Nairobi for the Open Day, part of the ongoing week-long celebrations marking the mosque’s 100 years of existence. Held under the theme “A Century of Peaceful Coexistence,” the Open Day has drawn people from different faiths, backgrounds, and nationalities eager to learn about the history, values, and role of Jamia Mosque in promoting unity and mutual understanding. While speaking to Jamia TV, Jamia Mosque Director of Da’wah, Sheikh Mohammed Sheikh, said the Open Day offers an opportunity to deepen interfaith dialogue and showcase Islam as a religion of peace and coexistence. “Jamia Mosque has stood for a hundred years as a center of faith, education, and social harmony. Today, we open our doors wider to strengthen those bonds with the broader community,” said Sheikh Mohammed. A team of enthusiastic volunteers has been guiding visitors around the mosque’s various sections including the prayer halls, library, and multipurpose hall while answering questions about Islamic practices and the mosque’s community programs. A Question and Answer session led by renowned scholars including Sheikh Ibrahim Lethome is helping in engaging participants in discussions about faith, coexistence, and the contributions of Islam to modern society. Five visitors have so far embraced Islam during the event. The Open Day forms part of Jamia Mosque’s centenary celebrations that include a photo exhibition, book launch, the relaunch of Jamia TV, and a special Friday sermon dedicated to reflecting on the mosque’s historical journey and future vision.
