Kenya Muslim Women Association Launches Groundbreaking Empowerment Center in Yatta
The Kenya Muslim Women Association has officially broken ground for the construction of a new community center in Yatta, Machakos County — a project designed to uplift and empower members of the community, especially women.
The event, marked by celebration and high spirits, drew together prominent figures and community leaders who recognized the center as a turning point for the region. The facility aims to equip women with vital skills, opening doors to opportunities in tailoring, plumbing among other practical fields.
Guest speaker Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Osman, Founder and Director of the Islamic University of Kenya, delivered a powerful call for unity. He urged the community to come together for the sake of this noble initiative, reminding them that lasting impact can only be achieved through collective effort.
Dr. Osman further made a generous pledge ,committing 12 million shillings to fund the project’s first phase. In addition, he promised to sponsor all new Muslim reverts in the area to study for free at the Islamic University of Kenya. Responding to appeals from local Sheikhs, he also vowed to support six Imams from the region to advance their academic knowledge and strengthen their capacity to guide the community.
Local leaders who graced the occasion applauded the initiative, praising both the organizers and community members for their determination. They emphasized the importance of unity and cohesion, highlighting that the project represents a rare opportunity for families and society at large to grow stronger together.
The new center is envisioned as more than just a training ground. It seeks to tackle deep-rooted challenges in the community ,including addressing gender-based violence within families and working to eradicate the harmful practice of mogaka usage in the region.
The deputy county commissioner, Mr. Robert Wang’ombe, commended the initiative, calling it a noble step toward sustainable change. He urged residents to rally behind it, noting that the center will become a beacon of hope and transformation for generations to come.
With the groundbreaking now complete, anticipation is high. The Kenya Muslim Women Association’s project is not just about bricks and mortar , it is about dignity, opportunity, and a united future for the people of yatta.
