The ongoing construction of the Lamu–Ijara–Garissa (A10) Road has reached 52.19 percent completion according to the state department of roads.
The 453-kilometer corridor, which links Lamu and Garissa counties, is expected to revolutionize trade, mobility, and regional integration once completed.
The project forms a critical part of the Lamu Port–South Sudan–Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor, envisioned to connect Kenya’s coastal and northern frontiers with neighboring countries, thereby strengthening the country’s position as an economic hub for East Africa.
The road will significantly enhance trade and market access for farmers, livestock herders, and small business owners across Lamu, Ijara, and Garissa.
Currently, many residents face high transportation costs and delays when moving goods to markets. Once completed, the improved road network will reduce travel time between Garissa and Lamu.
By linking the Lamu Port to inland regions, the road will complement ongoing investments under the LAPSSET initiative, paving the way for industrial development, logistics hubs, and new business opportunities.
