Mountain of Mercy Sponsors Community Kitchen Project for Displaced Families in Gaza

By Urban Shihemi, August 11, 2025  Mountain of Mercy, in partnership with the Dignity for Palestinians Campaign, has sponsored a Community Kitchen Project aimed at providing vital food support to displaced families in Gaza. On Sunday, the initiative successfully distributed hot, freshly prepared meals to 540 families living in various displacement camps across the region. The beneficiaries included residents of Al-Asliyya in Camp 2, Basmat Al-Amal Camp, and Al-Asima Camp 3, all of whom continue to face extreme hardship due to the ongoing siege and conflict. The Community Kitchen Project was set up to ensure that families, particularly those with children, the elderly, and people with special needs, have access to nutritious meals despite the severe shortages of food supplies in Gaza. Representatives from the Dignity for Palestinians Campaign, who oversaw the distribution, said the initiative was driven by the urgent humanitarian need on the ground. “This project is more than just about food it is about restoring dignity, hope, and a sense of normalcy to people who have been uprooted from their homes,” a representative said. Shenaz Abdulwahid ,the Kenya country director, Mountain of Mercy reaffirmed the organizations commitment to supporting Gaza’s most vulnerable communities and called on well-wishers and donors to continue contributing towards sustaining the Community Kitchen and other relief efforts. "With the humanitarian crisis in Gaza showing no signs of abating, such projects are a lifeline for families struggling to survive in overcrowded camps with limited access to essential services". She said. Four of the five permanent UN Security Council members condemned Israel's plan to occupy Gaza during an emergency meeting Sunday, with only the US supporting Israeli actions.

Israel has been facing mounting outrage over its deadly war on Gaza, where it has killed more than 61,000 people since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave and brought it to the verge of famine.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
