Muslim Organizations Unite to Launch Tree Planting Campaign in Solidarity with Palestine

By Urban Shihemi, July 30, 2025  A coalition of  Muslim organizations under the initiativeis set to launch a  campaign titled "Plant a Tree and Save a Life" on Thursday, July 31, 2025 in Nairobi. Spearheaded by the Jamia Mosque Committee-Nairobi, in collaboration with the National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF), Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), and the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), the campaign seeks to raise urgent humanitarian funds for the people of Palestine. Gaza is currently enduring one of the worst humanitarian crises in recent history due to the ongoing Israeli siege and relentless bombardment, which has pushed millions to the brink of starvation. Israel has maintained a blockade on Gaza for 18 years, and since March 2 has sealed all border crossings, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid and worsening already dire conditions in the enclave. The tree planting campaign funds will go directly towards food and medical aid for Palestinians in Gaza. At the same time, the planting of trees across Kenya will support the government’s ongoing efforts in environmental restoration and climate action. The launch will be graced by key Muslim leaders, government officials, political figures, and representatives from both the National and Nairobi County governments. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 147 people, including 88 children, have died of starvation since Israel launched its relentless offensive in October 2023. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has killed more than 60,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza since October. The unrelenting bombardment has devastated the enclave and triggered a deepening hunger crisis. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
