The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has confirmed the death of three recruits who developed medical complications during a scheduled training activity at the Defence Forces Recruits Training School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
In a statement released on Wednesday, KDF said the recruits fell ill during a routine endurance exercise conducted as part of their ongoing military training programme.
“The Kenya Defence Forces is deeply saddened to announce the tragic loss of three recruits who developed medical complications during a scheduled endurance training exercise,” the statement said.
According to the military, the recruits received immediate medical attention from on-site medical personnel before being rushed to the Eldoret Regional Hospital for advanced treatment. However, despite the efforts of medical teams, the three recruits were later pronounced dead.
“Immediate medical assistance was administered by on-site medical personnel, after which the affected recruits were evacuated to Eldoret Regional Hospital for advanced medical care,” KDF said.
The military added that investigations have been launched to establish the exact cause of the medical complications that led to the deaths.
The families of the deceased recruits have been informed, and KDF said it is providing the necessary support during this difficult period.
